How Effective Is Your Affiliate? (...Really!)What does this model have to do with anything we're about as affiliates? Everything!!! To make an organization effective, we need to have a clear mission based on core values that guide two related, but separate, things: (1) the work we do (aka: business strategy) and (2) how we do it (aka: organizational effectiveness). If, as affiliates, we only try to do more or better what we've always done -- we may never realize our vision and our full potential as organizations working to save public education. The Building Strong Affiliates Conference will be held in Austin, Texas on April 20-23, 2006. This is the place for state and/or local teams to gather to examine together the work they do and how they do it. Are we living and modeling our core values among ourselves, to our members, to the public? Do our programs reflect our mission and core values? Who should attend? Those who are the agents of organizational change for NEA Local and State Affiliates; those individuals inside the organization that have the power and influence to set the course, set policy, and lead internal change efforts. For State Affiliates, that includes (1) the president or vice president, (2) the executive director or assistant executive director, (3) the field services manager, (4) staff union leaders, (5) the CFO, business manager, or secretary-treasurer, and (6) staff who are involved with programs that have a strategic focus for the organization. For Local Affiliate teams should be comprised of: (1) the consititutional officers, (2) the local stff, (3) building representatives, (4) new leaders, and (5) constituency group representatives.
