2007 Friend of Education Award

Deadline To Submit Nominations—April 2, 2007

Nominations for the 2007 recipient of Friend of Education Award are now being solicited.

For 35 years NEA has bestowed this prestigious award on an individual or organization whose leadership, acts, and support have significantly benefited education, education employees, or students on a national scale. Since its inception in 1972, the Friend of Education Award has attained the status of highest tribute. Previous recipients include U.S. Presidents Lyndon B. Johnson, Jimmy Carter, and William Jefferson Clinton; U.S. Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall; and U.S. Secretary of Education Richard W. Riley. The award has also been presented to U.S. Senators and Representatives, governors, educators, civil rights activists, authors, and an athlete. Nominations reflecting these levels of achievement and worthy of recognition are now encouraged for the 2007 Friend of Education Award.

Nominations should include a statement about the nominee's contribution to education on a national level and may be accompanied by additional materials to assist the selection committee. Each nomination must be signed and submitted with proof of the nominator's NEA membership (such as an address label from an Association publication). Also, please note that if the nominee is eligible for NEA Active membership, he/she must hold such membership.

All duly submitted nominations are reviewed by a five-member committee of NEA Directors, which recommends a recipient of the Friend of Education Award to the Board of Directors. The award will be presented at the 2007 NEA Representative Assembly in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The deadline for receipt of nominations is April 2, 2007. Your submission of a nomination for highest honor is strongly encouraged.
